I had a strong emotional response to the Animorphs series, fer crying out loud. In his description “magic pony” . Genre: Fantasy Sub-genre: Swords and Sorcery Rating: 4 pints of blood Photobucket This is the sequel to Magic's Pawn, (my review of it *chuff chuff* won a contest here last year), and it's taken me nearly a year to get around to reading it. I'm looking for written, book-length fiction which so drew you into the point of view of the protagonist(s) that once you could hardly make yourself stop reading--and once you finished, you felt drained, weak, and oddly happy. I fell in love years ago with The Heralds of Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey after borrowing the Last Herald Mage series from my cousin. He refers to a type of book within the fantasy genre referred to as “magic pony,” which the moment I read had me cracking up. To enter, post a comment and give an example of a series or author you fell in love with after reading a book that was borrowed (from library, friend, relative, whatever.) . I'm writing this review after reading Lawrence Watt-Evan's humorous commentary of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series and in The Turtle Moves! The Last Herald-Mage Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey, aka Magic's Promise, Magic's Pawn and Magic's Price. I didn't mean for it to take so long, and it certainly doesn't mean that the books aren't good or that I didn't like it - I did, a lot. A friend of mine loaned me a copy of Magic's Pawn by Mercedes Lackey, and told me he would not speak to me again until I had finished it. You should really read something good, like the Last Herald Mage Trilogy (Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise, Magic's Price). "This first book of the Last Herald Mage Trilogy was first brought to my attention by my on-line friend Pat Nelson Childs who says Lackey's work was influential in his gay-themed fantasy series The Chronicles of Firma.
